Nietes destroys Thai foe in five
CEBU, Philippines - Two-division world champion Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes easily dismantled Thai Danai Meendaeng in round five of their non-title bout topbilling the "ALA Stars Boxing Tour" last Saturday night at the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex in Dumaguete City.
Nietes, who improved his record to 31-1 now spiked with 17KOs, was clearly the dominant fighter from the outset, landing an assortment of punches that rattled Meendaeng on several occasions.
In the fourth, Meendaeng sustained a bloody nose due to his absorption of solid blows launched by the ALA Boxing Gym star.
The end came when Nietes whipped Meendaeng with a string of body shots that sent the Thai visitor crashing into the canvas late in the fifth round. Referee Ben Necessario halted the onslaught after reaching the count of 10 at the 2:46 mark of round five.
It was Nietes' final tuneup before he will defend his WBO light flyweight title possibly against Mexican minimumweight tiltist Moises Fuentes in February next year here in the Philippines.
In the supporting main event, former two-time OPBF champion Jimrex ‘The Executioner’ Jaca pounded out a unanimous decision victory over 10 heats against Jaypee Ignacio of Quezon City.
The rest of the card saw Mark Vincent Bernaldez annihilating JR Mendoza, Crispin Parba beating Lyndon Castillo and Steve Ricaborda escaping with a split decision win over Jonathan Himongala. (FREEMAN)
