Off limits to public, Azkals to hold final practice at CCSC today
CEBU, Philippines - The Philippine Azkals will hold their final practice for their keenly-awaited "Face Off" against the Singapore Lions this afternoon, but it would be off limits to the public in an attempt to shield them away from any distractions as they gear up for the landmark event in Cebu sports.
Aside from the centerfield, the CCSC management has advised the public that the track oval will be closed starting at 3 pm today to accommodate the Azkals led by coach Hans Michael Weiss in their training.
Other than the joggers, however, belly dancing sessions will go on with their regular schedule at the studio, while aerobics will be transferred to the gym, according to a source from CCSC who requested anonymity as he is not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.
The Azkals are set to clash with the Singapore Lions in the first ever international friendly football match in the Queen City of the South at 7 pm this Thursday at the CCSC pitch. It also serves as their final tuneup before they compete in the prestigious AFF Suzuki Cup against host Thailand on November 24 in Bangkok.
As per tradition, holding practice at the playing venue for an event will be made available to the players a day before the match, but but since the Azkals are the home team, they have the luxury of getting a feel of the field first.
Each field has different ground surface that is why it is very important for a team to practice in the playing field before the game.
In a related development, Cebu Football Association (CFA) Board Member Nimrod NL Quinoñes disclosed the areas where vehicles can be parked for those who will be watching the goodwill encounter. This is to inform the motorists in advance what areas they should avoid on Thursday evening.
The designated parking areas include one lane in front of the Abellana National School and City Central School and on the side of Cebu Normal University along R. Landon and Pelaez Streets.
A pay parking area is also available at the University of San Carlos, at the Elizabeth Mall and at the vicinity of the Cebu Coliseum.
The parking area at the CCSC has been reserved to the VIPs only. No vehicle is allowed to park outside the area going to the CCSC entrance.
An undisclosed number of policemen will also be deployed to secure the area as well as to ensure the safety and welfare of the spectators. (FREEMAN)
