Airline, hotel organize charity runs

CEBU, Philippines - An airline company and a hotel establishment have joined the band of private corporations that organize running events for a worthy cause.

As part of its 20th year anniversary, SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, will stage its first ever fun run on November 25. A week before that, Hotel Elizabeth will hold its maiden "Royal Run" on November 18. Both events will take place at the Terraces grounds of Ayala Center Cebu.

Held in partnership with the Philippine National Red Cross, the SilkAir race is a fund-raiser for the benefit of the Kapamilya Blood Donation campaign of ABS-CBN Foundation.

“Aside from keeping our self fit and at the same time having fun, we see this event as a good way in helping ABS-CBN Foundation and Philippine National Red Cross in their blood donation campaign,” said SilkAir-Philippines country manager Chandran Menon in a press conference yesterday at Cebu Grand Hotel.

The categories to be contested are the 3K, 5K, 10K, 20K open and 20K masters.

Cash prizes and medals will be given away to the top five finishers in each category.

Registration fee is pegged at P250 for 3K, P300 for 5K, P400 for 10K and P550 for 20K. Entry forms are available at SilkAir office in Ayala Mall and Mactan Cebu International Airport, Cebu Grand Hotel, Bridges Salon, Brix Multi-Sports Shop and A.Runners Circle in Raintree Mall.

'ROYAL RUN'

Over 1,000 runners are expected to take part in the Hotel Elizabeth-sponsored 'Royal Run'.

Aside from commemorating its second year anniversary, hotel executives led by general manager Edmund Valencia said the run also serves as a fund-raising project for the Pedro Calungsod Foundation.

“We are not just doing this run to promote the hotel but also to show that we are aggressive in doing what we can to our community,” said Valencia.

The categories to be contested are the 4K, 8K and 16K.

Close to P50,000 in cash prizes are at stake for the top three winners in each category. Some items will also be raffled off for the participants including LED TVs, hotel accommodations and gift certificates.

Entry fee is pegged at P300 for 4K and 8K and P400 for the 16K. One may register at RUNNR and Nike in Ayala Active Zone and Hotel Elizabeth. (FREEMAN)
