CEBU, Philippines - Southwestern University (SWU) proved to be a force to reckon after it posted back-to-back victories in the Central Visayas leg of the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League -Season 10 at the Aznar Coliseum yesterday.
SWU’s secondary belles opened their bid with a 25-8, 25-19 thrashing of the University of Cebu.
Yesterday, SWU was fiercer and spared no mercy in a 25-0, 25-8 annihilation of the Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Jesus.
SWU team captain Therese Rae Ramas powered SWU to a 25-0 shutout in the first set.
After 15 successful serves on Ramas, SHS-HdJ called for a time out with the hope of stopping SWU’s scoring spree.
It was a wrong decision somehow as it allowed Ramas to take a quick break and powered on again to 10 more serves including several aces.
“I’ve been playing volleyball for around six years now but it’s the first time that I made that 25-0 serves,” said Ramas, who is still on her first year at SWU.
SWU, however, became a little bit 'friendlier' on the second set, allowing SHS-Hijas de Jesus to score.
UC, on the other hand, bounced back from its loss to SWU at the expense of Abellana National School, 25-26, 25-21.
Paref-Southcrest, for its part, won their first game against Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu but lost its second assignment to St. Theresa’s College, 25-17, 25-20.
The visiting Silliman University belles also had a good start by beating the University of San Carlos.
A total of 10 games are scheduled today starting at 8 am, while the championship match is set tomorrow at 3 pm. (FREEMAN)
