CEBU, Philippines - After missing in action last year, veteran pedal-pusher Wendel Barba stole the show this time in the “Enroute to the Bottom” downhill event over the weekend in Ilang-ilang, Brgy. Lagtang, Talisay City.
The Dumaguete City-native Barba topped the 30-above class. This year’s race follows an age-bracketing scheme to classify the riders instead of their skills.
Barba actually came out the fastest among the 31 entries as he negotiated the nearly two-kilometer racetrack in only one minute and 31.08 seconds .
Donkey Sanchez, who is also a motocross enthusiast, placed second with the time of 1:34.60, while Victor Bagano wound up third in 1:35.41.
In the 29-under category, bagged the first place trophy in 1:32.58 followed by Maximo Villarta (1:37.58) and Eusebio Ravanes (1:40.26).
Organized by Talisay’s very own Elwin “Bawing” Bucariza, the one-day tilt was supported by MCWD, Radical Ads, Oz Racing/Kokonut Helmet, V12 Radgear, Bike Psychos, Dartmore, TWO, Bikecology, Amazing Cebu, Atty. Vicente Gador, Jr. and Samsam Gullas.–Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (FREEMAN)
