Talisay, Carcar outlast rivals in Gullas Cup basketball tourney
CEBU, Philippines - Host Talisay and Carcar shackled separate foes in contrasting fashion in the 10th Gullas Cup basketball tournament over the weekend at the Talisay Sports Complex.
The Talisaynons staged a fiery uprising in the windup to blow away Minglanilla, 89-69, while Carcar toiled hard in the final half to turn back San Fernando, 85-78.
Talisay was never threatened since closing the first half with a 38-33 lead. After an even third-quarter battle, Talisay suddenly caught fire to close the match with a 30-15 spurt and come up with a 20-point demolition.
In the first game, Carcar bucked off a sluggish start to baffle San Fernando at the final buzzer.
Carcar trailed by five points at the break, 43-38, but launched a spirited rally in the remaining two quarters to steal the win.
After knotting the count at 61-all, Carcar ended the match with a 24-17 blitz to complete the big turnaround. (FREEMAN)
