Unitec goes 4-0 in UABC cagefest

CEBU, Philippines - Unitec Pipes stretched its unbeaten streak to four games with a 75-60 rout of Matimco in the continuing action of the United Architects Basketball Club (UABC) Corporate Cup Season 6 last Sunday at the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) gym.

Chad Go, Antonio "Jay-R" Decatoria, Jr., Criz Matunog and Oliver Tan connived for 53 points for Unitec, which never looked back after getting off to a hot 25-16 start. They closed the first half with an 18-point advantage, 49-27, and the rest, they say, is history.

In the other game, Michael Cinco sparkled with 24 points, Glicerio Villacorta fired 19 markers and Josephril Partosa scored 13 as Boysen Paints whipped up a furious fourth-quarter storm to crush Puyat Steel, 90-72, to firm up its grip of the solo second spot with a 3-1 win-loss record.

After a 64-all deadlock at the end of the third period, Boysen Paints suddenly breathe fire and brimstone to melt Puyat Steel anchored on a 26-8 offensive outburst in the final 10 minutes of play.

On the other hand, Jex Somosot played the hero's role in Durabend's cliff-hanging 77-76 win over the Cebu Home Builders. Marvin Siaotong finished with eight points, but it was Paul Sasan and Jonas Panerio who topscored for Durabent with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Durabend and Puyat Steel are currently tied at third place in the standings with similar 2-2 win-loss cards followed by Cebu Home Builders (1-3) and Matimco (0-4).
