CEBU, Philippines - The Canduman FC ended its campaign with a championship title and a runner-up finish in the first ever Centcom Football Cup for Peace and Unity over the weekend at the Central Command grounds in Brgy. Apas, this city.
The Canduman booters frustrated the Centcom Warzhockz of coach Alex Ballesteros, 2-0, to seize the players 14 crown.
Canduman barged into the final after whipping Barili FC, while Warshockz advanced after outsmarting Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu.
SHS-Ateneo, however, still has something to be happy about as it nipped Canduman to lift the champion's trophy in the players 12 class.
In the players 8 category, Lahug Elementary School clinched the title after edging out the University of San Carlos. It was a double whammy for the Carolinians as they also lost to Suba-Basbas in the players 10 final.
Despite the short notice, many teams joined the event which served as one of CentCom's Peace month activities.
With its success, Centcom chief Major General Jose Santos and former Philippine Team member Alex Ballesteros are bent on hosting a bigger tournament at Centcom in partnership with the Cebu Football Association (CFA). (FREEMAN)
