CCSC football field gets facelift for Azkals match

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Football Association (CFA) wants that no stone will left unturned in their plan to transform the soccer field of the Cebu City Sports Center into a perfect venue for the international friendly match between the Philippine Azkals and Singapore on November 15.

“We will be sending an expert in maintaining grounds to the sports center on Wednesday,” said CFA secretary-general Joey Herrera. “We will also hire four other people to get the unwanted grasses in the field.”

Currently, 'makahiya' and other weeds are sprouting inside the field.

“These 'makahiya' are dangerous since it can cause cuts when players fall to the ground,” said Herrera.

“We also noticed that garden soils were added in some spots. It will be taken out and washed river sand will be added instead.”

A truckload of washed river sand is ready to be delivered anytime.

Herrera said they will be sending an expert at the CCSC to teach the fundamentals of groundskeeping so the field will be properly maintained whether or not there is a major football match in Cebu.

“We are eyeing the long term development, thus, we (CFA) have hired an expert so they (CCSC) can learn on how to maintain the football field better. And CCSC will not spend for this, CFA will,” Herrera added.

Aside from hiring people to manually weed out unwanted grasses, CFA will also use a field mower and fertilizer spreader in rehabilitating the current status of the field, which is being utilized every day.

“We will schedule the mowing on Saturday so we can see contour of the field. Aside from that, mowing the field will promote carabao grass to spread and invade other weeds,” Herrera said. (FREEMAN)
