USPF volleybelles edge UC in five-set thriller

CEBU, Philippines - The University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPR) survived a five-set thriller against the University of Cebu (UC) to affirm its hold of the fourth spot in the women's volleyball event of the 12th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) season yesterday at the University of San Carlos (USC)-Main gym.

USPF set the tone in the first two extended sets, 28-26 and 26-24.

With their backs pinned against the wall, the UC ladies bounced back with aplomb in the third set, 25-13, and then followed it up with a hard-earned 25-22 win in the fourth to forge a rubbermatch.

The Thelma Datig-mentored USPF volleybelles, however, stepped up bigtime in the final set to seal the deal, 15-8.

USPF, thus, improved its win-loss record to 2-3 behind defending champion Southwestern University (4-0) and the University of San Jose-Recoletos and USC with identical 3-1 cards. (FREEMAN)
