Timex, Makoto sizzle in MEPZ-HRA bootfest

CEBU, Philippines - FC Timex-EA and Makoto FC emerged as elimination round topnotchers in the 2nd MEPZ-HRA Football Festival over the weekend at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

Timex-EA topped Bracket A, while Makoto Metals perched atop the leaderboard of Bracket B.

They will be joined into the crossover round by HPOI FC, Lear FC, Taiyo Yuden FC, Teradyne-2, Lexmark R&D, Fairchild SC, FC Timex 1, Opiniology, NKC, Cebu Mitsumi, Lexmark LIP, Lear FCx, and Tyredyne-1.

The remaining games as well as the crossover semis and the final match will be contested on September 30.

Initiated by the Human Resources Association (HRA) of Mactan Export Processing Zone, the tournament is aimed at fostering foster physical fitness, camaraderie and sportsmanship among companies in MEPZ.

From a one-day event last year, the organizers led by Irving Padillo have extended the football festival to two days to accommodate 15 teams in the men's open division and three in the ladies category. They are playing under a 9-a-side format.

Aside from football, the annual MEPZ-HRA Sportsfest also features basketball, volleyball, and bowling. — EBV (FREEMAN)
