Longer distances in Lapu' Health Run Series

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Driven by the huge success of its maiden staging last year, the organizers of the Lapu-Lapu City Health Run will hold the second edition of the event starting on September 29 in Punta Engaño.

There will be a total of eight legs this year and the race distances are longer.

“Atong gipataas-taasan karon, from 10K na pinakataas last year to 12 kilometers this time,” said councilor Harry Radaza during a video conference via Skye.

Radaza, Lapu-Lapu City’s committee chairman on sports, is still in San Francisco, California attending some family matters.

The second leg is scheduled on October 13 in Buaya via Bankal, while the third will be on October 20 in Pajac via Maribago. The fourth leg is slated on October 27 in Olango Island.

This is the first time that Olango has been included in the said running event.

“Mayor Paz Radaza wants to make Olango Island as a new tourism frontier. So we are including Olango for the said run,” added Radaza.

After Olango, action shifts to Suba Basbas passing through Marigondon and Agus on November 3. The sixth leg will be on November 10 in Kalawisan via Babag, Canjulao and Looc, while the penultimate battle will be staged on November 7 in Basak.

The run series, which is open even to non Lapu-Lapu residents, will end on November 24 at the Lapu-Lapu City Hall grounds.

An optional registration fee of P250 for the entire series is pegged for the participants.

Proceeds of the event will be for the benefit of the city’s feeding program on streetchildren. — (FREEMAN)
