USJ-R takes on CIT-U tonight

- Gabby G. Malagar - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - A well-rested University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars go up against the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats with hopes of getting back into the winning track in the 12th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) men's basketball tournament tonight at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Jaguars, poised to finish as second placer after the elimination round, stumbled against the mighty University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, 76-89, last August 18 in the battle of unbeaten teams.

Coming from that defeat, the Jaguars seek for redemption against the Wildcats, who are still reeling from a severe beating from the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras, 101-74, four nights ago.

After CIT-U, the Jaguars will go up against the University of Southern Philippines- Foundation (USPF) Panthers in the final elimination campaign on Tuesday.

The Jaguars could rely on Abulaiz Suliman, Miguel Tabaloc, James Regalado, Jason Olbedado and Banjo Capillar among their trusted veterans.

The Wildcats, on the other hand, can count on Allan Dimco, Franklyn Batiquin, Jeffrey Taghoy, Julius Tabalin, Bridrick Brigoli, Floyd Taboada and Axel Rabaya.

In the juniors division, defending champion University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers shoot for their seventh straight win when they collide with the Baby Jaguars.

In the other games, the University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors will square off against the University of Cebu (UC) Junior Webmasters, while the USPF Baby Panthers will test the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) Greywolves. - THE FREEMAN
