Petronas backs ups Mackyworx in developing potential riders

CEBU, Philippines - Mackyworx of team owner Chris Niño A. Macapaz got a big boost in its dedicated efforts to develop potential riders in Cebu with the entry of Petronas as its chief corporate backer.

Macapaz said their main thrust is to discover young and talented riders who do not have the capacity to join the sports.

"We're so happy to have Petronas in our team because they share our vision of discovering less fortunate but talented riders who have the potential to make it big in the local and perhaps in the national racing circuit in the future," said Macapaz.

"We know for the fact that there are a lot of talents here in the region who just need to be tapped properly. The entry of Petronas really inspires us to work harder and eventually reach our goal," he added.

Mackyworx launched its project last year and was fortunate enough to have spotted a young but promising rider in Marcelino Batulan, Jr. from Danao City.

In his debut race late last year, Batulan readily made waves by placing second in the beginners category of the Regional Underbone Grand Prix (RUGP) Series. He also wound up third in the Cebu leg of the Moto ROC (Race of Champions).

Batulan continued to make an impression by finishing second in the novice class during the opening leg of the 2012 RUGP Series at Kartzone racetrack.

Given the right support that complimented his dedication and skills, it did not take long for Batulan to claim a champion's trophy and he did it in style during the second leg of the RUGP Series just last month at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City.

"With the help of Petronas, we're looking forward to scout for more riders who are capable of making a name in the sport given the right support," said Macapaz.— EBV

Cebu leg of PSC Women in Sports program a success

The Cebu leg of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Women in Sports program leg under the auspices of Commissioner Akiko Thomson-Guevara went on smoothly and successfully last August 8 to 11.

Coaches Elma Muros-Posadas, George Noel Posadas (athletics), Ivan Francis Isada and Angelo Quintilla (volleyball), Floyd Lobaton and Juan Tagle, Jr. (table tennis) and Raffy Dionisio (badminton) braved the flooded streets of Metro Manila brought by monsoon rains to bring the program to the Sisters of Mary School in Talisay City.

Project Director Atty. Jay Alano and the PSC staff composed of Mary Jane Paaño, Perfidia Abalos, Roy Cortel, Rufino Serdoncillo, Lerma Binaoro and Audie Marte assisted the coaches and trainors in teaching the students of the school the rudiments of the aforementioned sports.

“We try to reach girls from the most far-flung areas of the country, through the best coaches from Manila so they can appreciate and live the values of sports such as discipline, sacrifice, teamwork and most importantly, the triumph of the human spirit against adversary,” said Commissioner Guevara.
