GMA-7 starts strong in NBAC hoopla

CEBU, Philippines - GMA-7 Kapuso/DYSS kicked off its title bid with an 82-72 victory over The FREEMAN/Bombo Radyo at the start of the Newsmen Basketball Association of Cebu (NBAC) 2012 Season yesterday at the Apas Sports Complex in Brgy. Apas, this City.

Flashy guard Gabriel Bonjoc churned out 24 points, while bull-strong center Renan Quiñones chipped 20 markers for GMA-7, which launched a searing run in the final three minutes of the third period to establish an eight-point lead, 68-60.

It was cruise control for GMA-7 the rest of the way.

Manny Villaruel paced The FREEMAN with 23 points, while Edwin Ian Melecio and Jurel Patiño finished with 25 points combined.

In the other games, CCTN-47 clobbered Cebu Daily News/DYLA, 86-57, while TV5 rode on a sizzling 13-6 rally in the windup to frustrate ABS-CBN, 87-79.

Levy Sayago pumped in 30 points and Chris Ligan contributed 16 markers for CCTN, which ripped the game part as early as in the first quarter, 22-8.

Calvin Cordova topscored for CDN with 19 points followed by Peter Romanillos with 14.
