Silvano, Cabilla fight for vacant PBF title tonight
CEBU, Philippines - Vergilio ‘Maton’ Silvano (11-2, 6KOs) of Omega Boxing Stable and Charlie ‘Steelbar’ Cabilla (12-10, 2KOs) vow to wage an all-out war against each other as they slug it out for the vacant PBF light flyweight title in the main event of the 'Fight Fury' boxing series tonight at the J Centre Convention Hall along A.S. Fortuna Street in Mandaue City.
The Dalaguete, Cebu-native Silvano, who has sparred with IBF light flyweight champion Johnriel Casimero as part of his rigid preparations, hopes to sustain his 11-fight winning streak. He scored a sixth round stoppage of Jonathan Ricablanca in his previous bout last May 11 in San Isidro, Leyte.
“I train hard because I really want to get the belt,” said Silvano, who tipped in the scales at exactly 108 pounds, one pound heavier than Cabilla. “I know like me, he (Cabilla) is also a strong puncher but I am ready to knock him out.”
Cabilla, for his part, will bank on his experience as he bids for an upset over the more favored Silvano. The Bukidnon-native Cabilla fought for the WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight title last year, but was beaten by Heri Amol in Indonesia.
In the supporting main event of the slambang card held in partnership with Omega Pro and Thai boxing patron Naris Singwangcha, Silvano’s stablemate and Phl No.7 flyweight contender Jason Canoy will face Ryan Bongcawil of the Bukidnon-based Kaamino Stable.
On the other hand, the undefeated Jack ‘Golden Boy’ Tepora will try to score another sensational victory when he trade fistic bombs with JR Salvador of the Phil-Australia Boxing Club (PABC).
The rest of the bouts pit Jordan Catubay vs. Anthony Galigao; Jhaleel Payao vs. Rommel Bangirigo; and Charlie Pucdol vs. Jerome Casas. (FREEMAN)
