Park is July's best in Alta Vista monthly tilt

CEBU, Philippines - David Park fired even-par 72 strokes to lead the winners of the July Monthly Medal of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club last weekend.

Park fired nines of 35 and 37 spraying three birdies and an equal number of bogeys.

He opened with a birdie 3 on the first hole, but stumbled with a bogey on the par-3 2nd then went to one-over-par after another bogey on the par-3 6th. He went back to even-par with a birdie on the 7th.

The Cebu-based Korean teenager slipped with a bogey on the par-3 15th, but made it up with a birdie on the par-5 16th to finish at even par.

Lowest net honors for class A went to Marlo Cugtas who had six-under-par 66 strokes while Victor Gocela was runner-up with a net score of 67.

The lowest gross honors for class B went to Alejandro ‘Jun’ Dayot III with 79 strokes on nines of 39 and 40.

Junior golfer Anton Pastoriza shot six-under-par 66 to take the lowest net honors while Al Parsons was runner-up with a net score of 67.

The lowest gross honors for class C went to Philip Huang with 92 strokes.

Brucedy Chan fired three-under-par 69 strokes to claim the lowest net honors while Alex Ngo was runner-up with 71 strokes.

Vicente ‘Inting’ Go, one of the club’s directors, once again dominated the seniors’ class by taking the lowest gross honors shooting four-over-par 76.

Lowest net honors for the seniors’ division went to Rey Sanchez with a tournament-best 60 strokes.

Rolly Santos bagged the lowest gross honors for the super seniors’ class, which is for players aged 70 and above. He shot 81 strokes.

Ronnie Kee had the lowest net with 66 strokes.

The ladies’ division lowest gross honors went to junior golf standout Ericka Lim with 81 strokes while lowest net winner was Jang Mi Hee with 70 strokes beating Susan Park in the countback.

Lowest gross honors for the guest category went to Hajime Goto with 80 strokes while Holer Mendoza bagged the lowest net plum with 67 edging Reggie Cinco.

Special prizes went to Al Parsons for nearest the pin on No. 6 leaving 4 feet and 5 inches for a birdie putt and Tess Ozoa for the most accurate drive on the 11th landing her tee shot an inch away from the center line.

Lino Dagus, one of the most active members of the Monthly Medal committee, won a prize for scoring an eagle on the par-4 hole No. 3 nailing his second shot from 140 yards using a rescue wood.

The tournament used a six-club format. This means that players were allowed to only use six clubs from their bag for the entire round. - THE FREEMAN
