Baseline jins shine in reg'l tikefest

CEBU, Philippines - Baseline Taekwondo Training Center dominated the 2012 Regional Taekwondo Championships & Metro Cebu Poomsae Championships at Insular Square in Mandaue City last Sunday.

Baseline’s supremacy in the poomsae event powered its bid for the overall title.

Avenger’s Taekwondo Center came out second overall followed by MRoline Dojang TKD (MDT). The fourth to sixth spots went to Minglanilla’s Canei, R Power and Toledo Taekwondo.

In the poomsae discipline or forms, Baseline got 12 golds, nine silvers and 10 bronzes.

ATC trailed with a 7-5-3 g-s-b tally, Canei had 2-2-4, while San Roque Child Development School of Consolacion got 1-1-2. Indiana Aeronautics won one gold and two bronzes, while Junas Fitness got three silvers and the same number of bronzes.

In the kyurugi or sparring competition, MRoline Dojang hauled a total of nine golds, eight silvers and six bronzes to claim the top spot.

Canei wound up second with seven golds and six silvers, while the Cebu City Sports Center-based RPower Gym got six golds, seven silvers and four bronzes.

Toledo went away with four golds, one silver and eight bronzes followed by Junas Fitness (3-14-7) and ATC (3-2-1).

In the battle among the black belters, Baseline swept the medals of the girls 10-13 age-group, with Nicole Maurin coming out on top followed by Aidaine Laxa and Danielle Estacio.

Baseline missed the gold in the 14-17 class won by Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu’s McAvyngr Alob. Cliven Gairanod grabbed the silver, while Adolf Soliman and Nino Aguilar took the bronze medals.

Another SHS-AdC bet, Clement Tan, took away the boys 10-13 gold. Kobe Hayrana and Baseline’s Benjamin Suarez got the silver and bronze, respectively. (FREEMAN)
