Anino, Lastimosa play hero roles as Knoxout, Plexibond win in UABC Mini Cup

CEBU, Philippines - Duane Dale Anino and Wilfredo Lastimosa played the heroes' role as Knoxout and Plexibond turned back separate foes at the start of the United Architects Basketball Club (UABC) Mini Cup 2012 last Sunday at the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) gym.

Anino hit the killer 3-pointer as Knoxout sent Wallguard tumbling down, 59-58, while Lastimosa calmly sank a free throw off a foul by Antonio "Jay-R" Decatoria, Jr. to vault Plexibond to a nerve-wracking 52-51 victory over the Konstrukt Permaplast.

Antonio netted only seven points as it was Richard Badayos and Chad Go who topscored for Knoxout with 23 points combined. Decatoria led Konstrukt Permaplast with 21 points.

Latimosa, on the other hand, finished with only five points for Plexibond, which drew 17 markers from Ferdinand Tiro followed by Jex Somosot with 12.

In the other game of a featured triple-header, Michael Cinco pumped in a season-high 32 points as Healthy Home ralied from a 30-33 deficit at halftime to baffle Titan Elastomeric at the final buzzer, 68-62.

Josephril Partosa added nine points for Healthy Home, while Ian Osmeña and Vincent Sesbreño paced Titan Elastomeric with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Presented by Boysen Paints in cooperation with Eastman Industrial Supply, Inc. the tournament follows a single round robin format, with the top four advancing into the crossover semifinals.

The top two qualifiers will enjoy twice-to-beat incentives over the lower-ranked squads. The winners will then fight for the championship in a winner-take-all affair.

The month-long tilt is a runup to the regular UABC season slated to start in August.
