Serenio destroys Flores in Mandaue MMA showdown

CEBU, Philippines - Ground fighting specialist James Joel ‘Spider’ Serenio of SOMA Kickboxing Club kept his undefeated record intact with a resounding first round stoppage of Jafet ‘Smiling’ Flores in the main event of the “Who Are You?: Unleash D’ Unstoppable” Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) showdown the other night at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.

Serenio needed only 45 seconds to destroy the Komjukai Aikijutsu disciple Flores and cruise to his sixth straight win in a row.

At first, Flores tried to take down his foe but Serenio, banking on his great body control and strength, parried Flores' attack with savvy.

Serenio was in danger for a moment after he was caught by a triangle choke by Flores. However, the Mandaue City-native Serenio survived the ordeal, then set up the stage for a brutal ground and pound offensive that left Flores unconscious for several seconds.

In the supporting bout, Geronimo ‘Daredevil’ Etac of the Yaw-Yan ArDigma-Cebu Top Team finished Arnel Ylanan of Bullet Muay Thai Stable at the 1:41 mark of the first round.

Etac landed a picture-perfect knee strike to the face followed by a vicious uppercut to break the backs of Ylanan.

In a special kickboxing match, Renan ‘Limbas’ Noblefranca, also of the newly-formed Yaw-Yan ArDigma elite squad, pounded out an impressive unanimous decision win over Leo ‘The Bull’ Rodrigo of Bullet Muay Thai.

In the other bouts, David Po won by close decision over Sherwin Pugales, John Edu Torbiso defeated Slotty Avila, Axel Torbiso stopped Jay Paul Noquera, Moises Nudalo outlasted Rolando Nacua, John Dave Epile used a decisive rear naked choke to crush Jasper Berdin, while Jun Abayle upstaged Edmar Sumbi.
