CEBU, Philippines - Franz Baguio and Hannah Galo reigned supreme in the second leg of the Congressman Red Durano Triathlon Series yesterday at the Sand Beach Resort in Danao City.
Baguio, a former top swimmer-turned coach and triathlete, defeated former Philippine Team member Chris Aldeguer for the top spot.
Baguio, who only escorted his athletes during the inaugural leg, made up from his absence by dishing out the best performance in all three disciplines. He came out of the waters ahead of the rest.
Even though he has to wait for Aldeguer during the bike part being teammates at Fish18, it did not hamper Baguio’s road to glory.
Baguio finished the lung-busting sprint triathlon race in 52 minutes and three seconds.
The youthful Justin Chiongbian took the third place honors.
In the distaff side, Galo made the most from the absence of first leg winner Rochelle Tan to snatch the title with ease. Tan, who ruled last week's Tabuelan 111 Triathlon, skipped the race in favor of a running event in Lapu-Lapu City.
Galo got out of the water at second but she caught up with the rest during the bike event where she built a comfortable lead. She crossed the finish line first followed by teen triathlete Gabriellie Gail Salimbangon. - THE FREEMAN
