CEBU, Philippines - Freddie Salimbangon was hailed as Golfer of the Year in the 19th Business in Golf Tournament shooting a total of 45 points in the one-day event played at the Cebu Country Club Friday.Salimbangon of MSY Holdings had the highest score among the company representatives and alternates to the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), who took part in the event.
The lowest gross title went to Kiddy Limchao Jr. with one-under-par 37 points in the Modified Stableford Scoring System.
The lowest net title went to Patricio Go with 46 points edging Jojo Alquizola in the countback.
The team title went to Rajah Park Hotel with a total of 156 points pulling past Fagioli in the countback.
The winning team was led by Nonoy Tirol with 41 points, who was backed by Robin Craze with 39, Ricky Brown with 39, and Alvin Garcia with 37.
The tournament requires a team to field four players and all their scores would count for the team total.
Fagioli settled for the first runner-up honors also with 156 points. Sircross Abarintos and tournament chairman Emmy Tesalona led the team with 41 points apiece. The other team members were Lito Gutierrez with 37 and Edel Pasumbal with 35.
Second runner-up was Mitsubishi with 155 points. Carlo Magno and Ben Dapat each carded seven-under-par 42 points while the rest of the team members were Raul Mabanto with 36 and Allan Osorio with 35.
The annual event is part of the Cebu Business Month celebration initiated by the CCCI.
The co-presenter of this year’s tournament was again BPI.
A special prize was given to Jan-jan Ybañez, who made the longest drive on the par-4 hole number 8.
A total of 30 teams took part in the tournament. (FREEMAN)
