Aegis hands Stream first loss in CSCC E-League
CEBU, Philippines - Ryan Veloso charted 25 points and Dean Junber Escalon added 21 markers as the Aegis Vipers whipped up a furious offensive storm in the final half to hand defending champion Stream Global Ingenyouity its first loss, 84-74, in the Sun Cellular-presented 8th CSCC E-League men's basketball tournament last Monday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
Clifford Amarado added 17 points and Steve Warren Navaja chipped in 10 for Aegis, which trailed by 11 points at halftime, 33-44.
But the Vipers woke up from deep offensive slumber in the third period where they outscored Stream, 25-15, to pull within just a hairline, 58-59, heading into the final 10-minute mark of the contest.
Aegis sustained its sizzling offensive and closed the match with a 26-15 bang to turn the tables on Stream at the final buzzer.
Aegis, thus, improved its win-loss record to 3-1, while Stream saw its two-game win streak come to a sudden stop. Reigning MVP Sylvester Millevo paced Stream with 23 points, but got no ample scoring support from the rest of his teammates.
In the other games, the Qualfon Knights rode on a third quarter explosion to repulse the1&1 Marauders, 63-57, while the Cebu Global Warriors overcame a slow start to turn back the Sykes Pioneers, 61-55.
Qualfon was down by three points at the bend, 24-27, but fired back with a searing 20-9 run in the third period to wrest the lead, 44-36, for good.
Jopher Regidor topscored for Qualfon with 25 points. Gerald Jacaban added 10 points and five rebounds
as they evened their win-loss record to 3-3, while dealing the Marauders their second loss in five starts.
Rowen Tagalog, on the other hand, netted 19 points on top of seven rebounds, four steals, three assists and two blocks in an all-around hardcourt show for Cebu Global. Jay Paradiang was similarly impressive with 16 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals as they finally snapped out of their two-game slump.
