Back-to-back for Hiroshi Reaffirms mastery over QCU to keep men's open title in Interclub football
CEBU, Philippines - The suspension of Flores from the Queen City team in the United Football League somehow produced a positive outcome as he romped off with the coveted MVP award. Aside from Flores, Mark Hilay was also banned for joining the Interclub tilt even if the UFL is still going on.
For clinching the championship for the second straight year, Hiroshi took home the P100,000 bounty.
Despite its heart-breaking setback, QCU still has something to be happy about as it ruled the men’s 40-above division after beating ERCO, 5-4, via penalty shootout.
The powerhouse Cebu team, on the other hand, claimed the boys 17-under crown after a 4-0 shutout of the Abellana National School-Pomeroy,4-0, while Dinamo South lorded its over in the boys 12 category after edging out Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu.
SHS-Ateneo, however, snatched two titles via the players 10 and boys 14, defeating Canduman FC, 1-0, and 4-0, in both age-group classes.
Ethan Deller of SHS-Ateneo was named MVP in the boys 12 category. The other MVP winners were Dinamo’s Joshua Shield (B12), SHS-AdC’s Jose Mari Kwan (B14), Cebu’s Christian Agot (B17), and Michael Velasquez (men’s 40-above).
Aside from the MVP, there were other individual awards given by the organizers. The best scorers were Christian Agot, Count’s Daven Taneo (P10), Dinamo’s Paolo Montesclaros (B12), Ateneo’s Joshua Ouano (B14), Erco’s Luis Natavio (M40) and QCU’s Rodney Gandionco (men’s open), while the best goal keepers include Canduman’s Carl Bascon (P10),Ateneo’s Jessie Semblante (B12), Gab Villacin(B14), ANS/Pomeroy’s Kevin Delantes(B17), QCU’s Lloyd Marbella and Hiroshi’s Henderson Jay Campo.
Cited as best defenders were Ateneo’s Jacob Braun (P10), Dinamo’s Hans Parel (B12), Paul David Carizon(B14), Cebu’s Carlo Abella, QCU’s Januarius Nacional (M40) and QCU’s Yancy Menchavez (men’s division).
Completing the list of honorees were the best midfielders in Ateneo’s Ket Fernandez (P10), John Veloso (B12), and Berthram Musn i(B14),Cebu’s Keith Ryan Arranguez (B17), Erco’s Rene Enoc(M40) and Hiroshi’s Peter Martin Dionela. (FREEMAN)
