CEBU, Philippines - Close to a hundred players will see action in the Tuburan Siglakas Open Chess Tournament slated on June 2-3 at the town's plaza.
Richard Natividad, who recently ruled the Mayor Celestino “Junnie” E. Martinez, Jr. Open Chess Tournament, leads the cast of strong title contenders.
Natividad is expected to face tough opposition from other top-rated pawnpushers in the mold of Anthony Makinano, Eden Diano, Diego Claro, Bonn Tibod, Allan Pason, Peterson Siua, Carlos Tan, Kyle Sevilleno and Rommel Ganzon.
The tournament, which follows a 7-round Swiss system format, is among the highlights of Tuburan's annual fiesta celebration on June 12-13 in honor of its beloved patron San Antonio de Padua.
Aside from trophies and medals, the champion will pocket P8,000, while the second to fourth placers will receive P5, 000, P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.
The fifth to 10th finishers will get P1,000 each, while those who will make it to the top 15 will get a consolation prize of P500 apiece.
