CEBU, Philippines - The little known Martin Nuñez caught everyone by surprise as he snared three titles during the fifth leg of the 2012 MS Motosuit Motocross Series dubbed as the '1st Congressman Benhur Salimbangon Cup' last Tuesday in Curva, Medellin north of Cebu.
Nuñez, who hails from Brgy. Talamban, outsmarted Pepo Rubi and fourth leg champion John Flores for the top spot of both the expert and pro divisions.
Lady luck really smiled at Nuñez on that day as he also came out the fastest in the intermediate class followed by Roscel Gungob and Ray Quirol.
Gungob and Quirol though managed to take home two championship trophies each.
Gungob clinched the novice open production title over Rey Quirol and James Duroy and the executive A crown over Duroy and Jun Enriquez.
Quirol, for his part, topped the local and open enduro categories. JC Obligado and Alex Abalo wound up second and third, respectively, in both divisions.
The rest of the winners were Jun Enriquez (executive B), Jonathan Cuyos (executive C), James Duroy (beginners open production), Denmark Supatan (mini 85cc), and BJ Pepito (mini 65cc).—(FREEMAN)
