Cuello kayoes Lopez to earn world title shot

-

CEBU, Philippines - WBC Silver minimumweight champion Denver “The Excitement” Cuello-Singwangcha easily dismantled Mexican Ganigan Lopez in two rounds in their WBC elimination bout yesterday at the Palenque de la Feria in Celaya, Guanajuato.

Aside from improving his record to 31-4-6 now spiked with 21KOs, Cuello also earned a mandatory shot at the WBC 105-pound throne currently held by Japanese Kazuto Ioka although the match is unlikely to take place due to Ioka's reluctance to mix it up with the Filipino champ.

“There is no way out for Ioka. Either he stands up as a real champion and face Denver or cowardly duck Cuello by moving up in weight. Trash talks aside, Denver is unstoppable at 105 pounds. He wants the title belt and nobody is stopping him. The kid is hungry. He wants the WBC belt, try to unify titles in the division and move up and face the top guys at 108. Right now, we will enjoy the victory and talk about the Ioka fight next,” Cuello's manager Aljo Jaro told Chito Katangkatang of philboxing.com.

Cuello was on the attack mode right after the opening bell and his aggressiveness yielded positive effects as he decked Lopez with just a few seconds gone by in the first round. The Binangonan, Rizal fighter eventually finished off the hapless Mexican with a flurry of telling blows to the head and body in the second round.

“To my fans and countrymen, thank you for the prayers. I also thank God for this victory and for the chance to bring honor to our country. I am also dedicating this win to my manager Aljoe Jaro. This is my birthday gift to him. Happy Birthday Kuya Aljoe,” said Cuello in the same internet report.

“To Kazuto Ioka, you can run but you can never hide. It was a difficult road for me to get the mandatory status. Let's make the fight happen even at your home backyard in Japan. I don't care where you want the fight to happen. I wan't to face you right away and get that belt,” added Cuello.— EBV with reports from philboxing.com (FREEMAN)
