CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City fighter Adones Aguelo (16-7-1, 9KOs) will defend his Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) featherweight title against Godwin Tubigon (7-5-1, 3KOs) of Dipolog City in the main event of a seven-fight boxing show presented by TI Yamagata Promotions on May 26 at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.Aguelo will make the second defense of the PBF belt he seized with a fourth round stoppage of Bukidnon brawler Jake Verano on September last year in Maria Siquijor.
Aguelo, who turned 24 years old last May 11, fought for the interim WBO Oriental featherweight championship but lost to the undefeated Australian hard-puncher Joel Brunker (20-0, 13KOs) by 12-round unanimous decision on November 25, 2011 at the Mansfield Tavern in Mansfield, Queensland, Australia.
In his previous match, Aguelo beat Renan Branzuela via unanimous verdict over 10 heats to keep his PBF throne last February 19 at the Basak Sports Complex in Lapu-Lapu City. Curiously a day before that, Tubigon lost by decision to James Bacon of the ALA Boxing Gym at the Panglaon town plaza in Panglao, Bohol.
In the supporting bouts of the Aguelo-Tubigon duel, Philippine No.5 bantamweight contender Jayson Egere of Siaton, Negros Oriental will slug it out with PBF ranked No.3 super featherweight Johnriel Marcos of Lanao del Norte, while TI Yamagata Valero of Mandaue will go up against Michael Bastasa of Dipolog in a flyweight clash scheduled for eight rounds.
The rest of the card pits TI Yamagata Masashi vs. Jaime Bermiso; TI Yamagata Ardie vs. Robert Awitin; Jayvee Galea vs. Jessie Dignos; and Margarito Moya vs. Richard Rosales.
