CEBU, Philippines - The second edition of the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu High School Alumni Association Fun Run will take place on June 10 starting and ending at the school’s Oblation statue in Brgy. Lahug, this city.
This is an opportunity for us to renew old friendship, gain friends from new batches and do something as a group to the school," said outgoing UPCHSAA president Jayjay Neri in a press conference yesterday at the Magallanes-Colon room of City Sports Club-Cebu.
The organizers expressed confidence that they would be able to draw a huge number of entries even though the race coincides with the keenly-awaited boxing showdown between eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and the undefeated WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley at at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The superbout will be telecast live via satellite in the Philippines on pay-per-view basis that will surely be another blockbuster hit among Pinoy fans.
"The race will be finished by 8 am and the Pacquiao fight will be shown here during lunchtime so there's no problem at all," said Neri.
During the inaugural edition of the Run UP High that fell on Labor Day last year, the event has attracted close to 1,000 participants despite the fact that three other running events were held on the same day.
For its second staging, three categories will be featured:3K, 6K and 12K. There will be a special barkada run for a group of four runners tied together in costume.
Registration fee is pegged at P300 for 3K, P350 for 6K and P400 for 6K. All batch members who can come up with a P5,000 sponsorship can field in one team for the barkada run.
One may register at UP High School Cebu (Tuesday to Friday) and at RUNNER in Ayala Center Cebu (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).
The annual charity run is for the benefit of the scholarship program of the UPCHSAA, Inc. and for the professional development of deserving faculty members. - THE FREEMAN
