LINGAYEN, PANGASINAN, Philippines – Central Visayas remained without gold as it could only snatch another bronze medal in elementary gymnastics after two days of action in the 55th Palarong Pambansa yesterday at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center here.
The triumvirate of Marianne Alegado, Aj Melgar and Eunice Odag settled for third place in elementary girls team event of rhythmic gymnastics held at the People’s Astrodome in Dagupan City.
Aldrin Agang earlier turned over bronze in the 5,000m run at the start of athletics event last Sunday.
CV hopes to finally win gold medals at the start of swimming competition today in Dagupan.
Coach Rolando Alvarez said the likes of Lyh Ann Navarro, Annita Monterora, Leanne Mancira and Karen Mae Indaya are expected to secure golds in their respective events.
Volleyball
In the secondary division, CV, represented by reigning Milo Little Olympics (MLO) national champion Pajo National High School (PNHS), easily dismantled Zamboanga, 25-11, 25-9, in the girls division, while Abellana National School (ANS)-powered squad clobbered Region XIII, 25-17, 25-15 in the boys side.
Four-time Palarong Pambansa title-holder Catmon Elementary School overpowered Region IX, 25-10, 25-13 in the elementary girls division, while their boys counterparts manned by Colegio del Sto. Niño thrashed Region IV-B, 25-18, 25-17.
Football
The CV booters from defending champion Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) cruised to their second straight win at the expense of Northern Mindanao, 8-0.
Keen Agot poured in four goals, Jay Arizabal chipped in three goals, while Chino de la Calsada added one.
In the elementary division, the younger Bosconians escaped with a 3-2 victory over Zamboanga.
Basketball
The region started strong in both categories. The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC)-powered secondary squad fended off Caraga Region at the Lyceum Northwestern University gymnasium, while the elementary squad manned by Paref-Springdale beat Region IV-B, 66-20. The secondary girls also prevailed over Bicol Region at the Binmaley Catholic School covered court.
Sepak Takraw
Over at the Arenas Gymnasium in San Carlos City, CV scored a twinkill over Caraga Region, 2-1, and Region 1, 2-1. (FREEMAN)
