SWU goes 0-2 in V-League
CEBU, Philippines - The Southwestern University (SWU) Lady Cobras succumbed to their second loss as they bowed to the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs in the 9th Shakey’s V-League presented by Smart yesterday at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Jordan Paca-mentored Lady Cobras made an impressive start as they thrashed the Lady Bulldogs in the first set, 25-21, behind the attacks of its mainstays Danika Yolanda Gendrauli, Princess Anne Pido, Raphirl Aguilar, Lorie May Layno and Marlyn Llagoso along with its reinforcements, PHL team member Nica Guliman and Genie Sabas.
SWU, however, failed to sustain its momentum in the second set and lost, 21-25.
Motivated by their triumph in the second set, the Lady Bulldogs came raging in the third set with a dominating 25-18 win.
In the fourth set, NU continued to master the Lady Cobras and scored a 25-17 finish.
The reigning CESAFI grandslam champion and PRISAA national titlist has now a 0-2 win-loss record while NU has a 1-2 standing.
“The girls played at their best but luck was not with us today. We were very weak in our center defense as we lack quickers (quick spikers). And there were also lots of miscommunication between the setter and the guest players and the attackers. But I’m glad that the girls showed a good fight unlike in our first match against Far Eastern University,” said SWU’s chief strategist, Jordan Paca.
This would not be the last tough match for SWU as they will face next the defending champion, Ateneo Lady Eagles, on Sunday.
SWU will still be on the running if they could defeat their last opponent in the bracket, the University of Perpetual Help. (FREEMAN)
