Second level of Yaw-Yan summer clinic gets underway
CEBU, Philippines - The enrollment for the second level of training in the 2012 Yaw-Yan Ardigma Martial Arts Federation, Inc. Summer Clinic is now going on at the Yaw-Yan Headquarters situated at the fourth floor of the Coast Pacific Downtown Center just across the UC-Main Campus along Sanciangko Street, this city.
"Our main goal is to encourage everyone, especially the young ones and health conscious individuals, to study the art self-defense. Studying martial arts is a lot of fun as you will not only gain friends, but also develop a high sense of self-esteem. More importantly, you can cultivate the power of your mind, body and spirit," said Yaw-Yan Ardigma Cebu CEO/Founder and Vis-Min director Master Benigno "Ekin" R. Caniga, Jr.
Yaw-Yan is derived from the two syllables of "Sayaw ng Kamatayan" (Dance of Death), an authentic filipino martial arts. It was first introduced to the public in 1972 by its originator GM Napoleon "Nap" A. Fernandez during a simple ceremony in Sta. Cruz, Manila.
Yaw-Yan Ardigma is an all-out martial art using the body as weapon. It trains the students in different areas of teaching from punches, kicks, head and shoulder butts, elbows and knees to take down and ground fighting techniques. It is effective in the ring as it is on the streets.
Master Ekin encouraged everyone to get fit this summer by joining the Yaw-Yan program, which is open to people of all ages.
"Be patient and tough. Someday, the pain you endure in the course of the training will be useful to you, " he said.
The courses offered in the month-long camp include arnis, boxing fitness, Yaw-Yan combat (self-defense), Yaw-Yan Ardigma system and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
