Alaska Power Camp next week

- Gabriel G. Malagar -

CEBU, Philippines - The annual Alaska Power Camp, which is aimed at developing young kids to become future basketball stars and sports leaders, will start its Cebu leg on Monday and will end on May 5 at the Sacred Heart School gym along Gen. Maxilom Ave., this city.

Head trainor and University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters coach Roel Gomez encouraged the interested participants to register early as he only has a maximum of 55 slots open.

Kids aging 6-17 years old both boys and girls are accepted to join the clinic, which runs from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

Registrations can be made at the venue and the fee is pegged at P1,200. This entitles the participant to a jersey and one Alaska signature basketball to be used during the two-week training.

One of the most significant advantages to enroll in the Alaska Power Camp is the chance to become a member of the Jr. NBA as the Alaska franchise is given the right to choose the candidates, who will then be given the chance to play in Manila.

After the training, Gomez and his assistants will select the camp’s Best Player, Mythical Five and other individual awards where they will hand out handsome trophies and medals.

During graduation, Alaska team manager Joaquin Trillo is invited to distribute the certificates and the kids will also have the opportunity to have photo sessions with the people from the marketing department.

The assistants, who are all from UC are Caleb Gawangon, Reggie Licanda, Joevert Samonte, Lawrence Agas and Arvin Kim Gomez, son of coach Gomez who will be returning to the Webmasters after a two-year respite in order to focus his studies.—(FREEMAN)
