Dodie Boy Jr. vs Buckie this Sat

CEBU, Philippines - With the chance to fight in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley showdown at stake, unbeaten super bantamweight prospect Dodie Boy Peñalosa Jr. has a task  to score another jaw-dropping performance this time against Indonesian Alex Buckie in the main event of “Dugong Kampeon V” this Saturday night at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

“He will fight in the undercard of Manny’s fight against Bradley this June, but he must first score an impressive win against the Indonesian,” said Filipino ring icon turned promoter Gerry Peñalosa, Dodie Jr’s uncle.

“Everything is at stake. Hopefully my nephew can deliver this Saturday.”

But the veteran Indonesian fighter said that he came to the country with a mission and that is to hand an upset loss against the rising Cebuano boxer.

“He (Peñalosa) is young and a good boxer, but I came here to the Philippines with a high spirit. I have nothing to lose,” said Buckie during a public workout yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center boxing gym.

Buckie will be Peñalosa’s third foreign foe after Singmanasak and another Thai Kongfah Kiatpracha, who the Filipino destroyed in the third round last August also at the Mandaue Sports Complex.

“I know he is tough but I train hard for this fight and there is only one thing in my mind now and that is to give my fans an impressive win,” said Peñalosa who will try to score his ninth straight knockout victory.

In the supporting bout, Philippine featherweight champion Michael Farenas will face battle-tested Jason Egera in a 10-round non-title tiff.

Farenas who is considered as the prodigy of Gerry Peñalosa will also try to dominate his opponent as he is also groomed to train and fight in the U.S.

“Golden Boy Promotions is interested in signing Farenas but first he most also show to us that he deserve such chance to train and fight in the US,” added Peñalosa.

The boxing event presented by GerryPens Promotion and GMA-7 also includes Dodie Boy’s younger brother Dave Peñalosa who will slug it out against JR Salvador of Mandaue City.

The rest of the card features Ren Ren Ruiz vs. Joebert Alvarez, Raymond Empic vs. Rommel Bangirigo, Jhack Tepora vs. Sherwin Caday, Jayson Borleo vs. Jun Ryan Quimbo, John Kenan Villaflor vs. Andrew Palas and Margarito Moya vs. Roel Sumabong. (FREEMAN)
