Four slots to Phl team up for grabs in Visayas qualifying of WYSC
CEBU, Philippines - The Visayas qualifying of the 2012 World Youth Scrabble Championships (WYSC) slated May 19-20 at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) gets more exciting as it offers four berths to the Philippine Youth Team.
Only two slots were given to Cebu to form part of the national squad last year, but this time, the organizers decided to make it four.
Those who will make it to the top four will represent the country to the World Youth Scrabble Championships later this year in London, England.
Tournament director Roger Abella said they are expecting close to a hundred participants in the two-day tilt that is open to students aged 17 years old and below.
Registration fee is pegged at P150.
Natalie Cabaluna of the University of San Jose-Recoletos will be on hand to defend her title. She is expected to face tough challenge from the likes of Mary Grace Paredes and Mae Villagonzalo from the University of the Visayas (UV) and her fellow Josenians Orgie Albano, Millefieren Rodriguez and Phil Figues.
The WYSC Visayas qualifying is one of the sporting events featured in the 3rd Cebu Fest, now dubbed as the “Great Sports Festival and Expo Cebu” scheduled to be held from May 17 to 20. (FREEMAN)
