CEBU, Philippines - Danika Yolanda Gendrauli and Lorie May Layno of Southwestern University (SWU) reigned supreme in the Sta. Fe Beach Volley Open over the weekend at the Gelemi Beach Resort in Sta. Fe, Bantayan Island.
The Gendrauli-Layno tandem overpowered Apple Eve Saraum and Jerra Mae Pacinio, 21-14, 21-16.
Gendrauli said the competition was part of their preparations for the 15th Nestea Beach Volley National Finals set from April 19 to 21 in Boracay Island.
“We joined this competition because training hard is not enough. We need to test on how far we improved in our training through joining tournaments. We're very happy because we were able to prove our worth,” said Gendrauli.
In the men’s bracket, Mark Anthony Fernandez and Dodo Zaspa took the title after thrashing early title favorite Jade Becaldo and Mike Abria.
The duo of Fernandez and Zaspa had to pass through a three-set thriller before taking home the crown against the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) champion, 21-18, 9-21, 25-23. (FREEMAN)
