CEBU, Philippines - This year’s edition of the Bantayan Beach Games unfolds today with the off-road duathlon competition at the Bantayan Island Nature Park and Resort in Brgy. Tamiao.
Set to start at 2 pm, the race will be participated in by both the young and adult athletes who will deal with a 3-kilometer run, 15K bike and then finish with a 2K run.
The age-group categories to be contested are the 19-under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50-above. The kids duathlon, on the other hand, will have the boys and girls 10-under, 11-12 and 13-14 classes. They have to go through a 1.2K run, 6K bike and another 1.2K run.
Action shifts to Sugar Beach Resort in Santa Fe on Good Friday, with the individual time trial for cycling and the open water swimming event.
The 14-kilometer ITT takes place in the morning, while the 5K open water swim will be held in the afternoon.
On Black Saturday, the 5K beach run will be staged as well as the final leg of the Oceanman Team Championship Series.
For those who missed the first leg, the Oceanman is a run-swim event wherein the participants will deal with a 200-meter run followed by a 400m swim four times.
The finale of the four-day spectacle is the last leg of the Summit Triathlon Team Championship Series on Easter Sunday. It covers 1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run. - THE FREEMAN
