"King of the Beach" tourney set in Cebu
CEBU, Philippines - Once the construction of a beach sand court in Fort San Pedro will be finished, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) beach volley consultant Eric Lecain will hold a series of “King of the Beach” tournaments here in the Queen City of the South.
Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) executive director Brando Velasquez said they have already started the construction of the beach sand court at the historic place.
Aside from the competition, Lecain also plans to hold clinics in different age-groups including players who are no longer in school.
“I’m doing this since I am searching for players interested to be trained in order to play tournaments outside of the country. I believe giving everybody a chance to play in both men and women’s division will be suitable for this plan because you’ll never know who may show up. Maybe a complete unknown will be the next great star,” said Lecain.
Lecain said he broached the idea of building a beach volley court somewhere in the heart of the city and it has been realized by CCSC headed by its chairman Edward Hayco with the support of Mayor Michael Rama, Cebu Parks and the PSC.
“I have pushed very hard for this court and had to climb many fences to get it up. It still has a long way to go because of funds, but there’s no turning back. I think it will be a great centerpiece for the park and give many opportunities for Cebu [beach volley] players,” he said. (FREEMAN)
