Bornia scores treble in Milo net

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - Allysa Mae Bornia emerged as the lone triple gold medallist in the Visayas leg of the 2012 Milo Junior Tennis Cup, which ended yesterday at the Cebu International Tennis Centre, Inc. (CITCI) in Laray, Consolacion.

After clinching the girls 16-under tiara, Bornia sustained her momentum to grab the girls 14-under crown with a 6-2, 6-4 demolition of Kristine Renee Salimbangon.

Bornia, together with Zethley Mae Alferez, also snared the girls 14 doubles after they upstaged Salimbangon and Cherry Mae Toledo, 6-3, in the lone set final.

John Gofrey Seno failed to duplicate Bornia’s triple victory after he bowed to San Beda’s Pocholo Macalino, 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 in the boys 16-under final.

Seno, however, still has something to be happy about as he earlier claimed the boys 14 title.

Seno also topped the boys 14 doubles with partner Jermaine Laurel. They beat San Beda’s Elijah Arevalo and Derek Tabotabo, 6-2, in the final.

Aside from Seno and Bornia, the other netters who earned the right to represent Visayas in the national finals set later this year in Manila are Nonito John Pepito in the unisex 10-under, Francis Lambayan and Zethley Mae Alferez in the 12-under class.

Only the top winners in the 10-under, 12-under and 14-under of the Visayas leg will play in the nationals against the best of Luzon and Mindanao.

Meanwhile, Jarryd Laurel and Marc Norman Enriquez defeated Edward Alomina and Villarin, 6-4, to rule the boys 18 doubles, while Sally Mae Siso and Hannah Grace Espinosa proved too much to handle for Natalie Alipe and Edel Donaire, 6-1, in the distaff side. (FREEMAN)
