Gaudiel sinks game-winner USC beats Don Bosco to grab U-19 title of Aboitiz Cup

CEBU, Philippines - Koko Gaudiel knocked in the killer goal on a long shot as the University of San Carlos (USC) upstaged the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC), 1-0, to seize the men's 19-under championship of the 14th Aboitiz Football Cup yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

Gaudiel, a former teen Azkal, caught Don Bosco’s goalie off-guard midway in the first half to USC’s advantage.

The Bosconians tried so hard to come up with the equalizer, but they ran out of gas as the match progressed, mainly because of USC's agressive plays and porous defensive stance.

Despite the setback, Don Bosco of coach Dave Gerali couldn't ask for more as they have been blessed already with four titles in this year's edition of the longest-run soccer tournament in Vis-Min region.

Don Bosco has earlier ruled the players 8, 10, boys 12 and 14 categories.

In the battle for third, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu tamed the Abellana National School-Pomeroy, 4-2.

Exciting battle resumes today at the same venue, with the Queen City United (QCU)-A taking on the Crazy Horse in the keenly-awaited men's open final scheduled at 3 pm.

Prior to the QCU-Crazy Horse duel, the Don Bosco United will go up against the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) for the third place trophy. (FREEMAN)
