CEBU, Philippines - Cebu's tennis princess Sally Mae Siso made her last appearance in the Milo Junior Tennis Cup-Visayas leg a memorable as she needed just 45 minutes to demolish Hannah Grace Espinosa, 6-1, 6-0 and clinch the girls 18-under crown yesterday at the Cebu International Tennis Centre, Inc. (CITCI) in Laray, Consolacion.
“I did not expect the match to end that early, much more the lopsided outcome,” said Siso, who is studying at the University of San Carlos (USC).
It was a completely different story in the boys 18-under as Marc Norman Lopez, the unheralded bet from the University of the Visayas (UV), stunned the top-seeded Fritz Satera, 7-5, 6-3 in the toughest and longest final match that lasted one hour and 30 minutes.
On the other hand, John Godfrey Seno pulled off a 6-2, 6-1 win against the visiting Elijah Arevalo of San Beda in the boys 14 class.
Seno aims for a double victory as he takes on another San Beda player Pocholo Macalino in the boys 16 finale today.
Seno advanced after he shocked the top-ranked Andre Rodriguez of San Beda in convincing fashion, 6-2, 6-1.
In the distaff side, Zethley Mae Alferez outsmarted Kristine Renee Salimbangon, 6-2, 6-4 to grab the 12-under tiara, while Allysa Mae Bornia reigned supreme in the girls 16-under category after edging out Bohol’s Dawn Albert Uy, 6-3, 6-0. (FREEMAN)
