Young Cebuano batters get support from Gwen

CEBU, Philippines - The province of Cebu under the leadership of Governor Gwen Garcia has extended financial support to the young Cebuano baseball players in light of their participation to the 2012 Little League Philippine Series slated from April 6 to 8 in Clark, Pampanga.

The Cebuano representatives to the three-day joust are from Carmen, Asturias and Sogod elementary schools in northern Cebu. They will see action under the juniors category.

In a letter to Garcia, the youthful batters headed by their team captain Vince Earnest Mangapis, a grade 6 pupil of Carmen Central Elementary School, proposed a total budget of P108,000.

“Kay wa nami laing kaduolan, nagsuwat na lang ko ni Gov. Gwen (We have no one else to turn to so I wrote to the governor),” said Mangapis.

Garcia responded on the affirmative, informing the kids that the province will shoulder their daily allowances, uniforms and plane tickets for the competition.

The kids thanked Garcia for her support, even as they vowed to give their all-out best to bring honor and pride to the province.

“Thank you kaayo Gov. Gwen nga imu ming gitabangan padung ngadto sa Pampanga. Maningkamot mi nga modaug (Thank you governor for your help. We will do our best to win),” said Rafael Enriquez, the youngest among the players.

Should they win the championship, they will earn the right to represent the Philippines in the Asia-Pacific Baseball Championships set this July in China. (FREEMAN)
