CCSC to include judo in summer program
CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) will include judo in the lineup of its summer sports program set to start on April 9 in different venues.
Decorated Cebuano judoka Vicente Fernandez III, a former national junior player, will spearhead the training along with athletes from the University of Cebu (UC).
They will first teach the participants on “falling” in order to help protect them from injuries before engaging in other sports.
“We included judo already in the lineup of games because we have volunteer trainers. They will be teaching one of the basics of judo, which is falling. It will be useful for the athletes to protect themselves from injuries during unwanted accidents,” said CCSC executive director Brando Velasquez.
Aside from judo, the other sporting events featured in the grassroots development project of CCSC are lawn tennis, taekwondo, arnis, archery, baseball, softball, dancesports, table tennis, sepak takraw, chess, boxing, beach volleyball, athletics, badminton, basketball and volleyball. (FREEMAN)
