The best and the worst
Congratulations to all those who were recognized last Saturday in the 30th All-Cebu Sports Awards.
Although scattered rainshowers somewhat dispersed part of the crowd at one point of the affair, we managed to finish the entire program including the special presentations by some of the awardees and the University of Cebu Cheerdance Team.
Big thanks also to San Miguel Brewery, which has been supporting the annual endeavor of the Sportswriters Association of Cebu for the past three decades.
With more sports being recognized and more athletes basking in the limelight, it would again be tough to select the awardees for the next edition.
Cheers and we’re looking forward to next year.

I am confident that the unfortunate incident at the most recent offering of Pinoy Pride in Bohol where the Mexican matchmaker sent the wrong boxer to fight Boom-Boom Bautista would not discourage the fans from watching the future offerings of the series.
While it is very sad that such thing happened, I’m sure ALA Promotions learned a very important lesson.
Michael Aldeguer, president of ALA Promotions has announced that they would seek legal remedy for the fiasco and I hope that whoever is at fault would really answer for the misdeed.
It often happens that success would make people relax a bit. In this case, there were lapses that weren’t checked early on.
It was a good move to reimburse the fans and for the TV network not to air bout. It is a big loss in terms of finances, but then it’s only money and the loss of face would be harder to rise from.
What boxing fans want are good fights and of course, for our fighters to win. The Pinoy Pride series has been quite successful until last weekend, but I’m sure ALA Promotions will bounce back big time after that.
As a boxing fan, I look forward to watching good fights and I am eager to be at the next Pinoy Pride at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino late this month.

Here’s a special announcement for my fellow security professionals. Yes, aside from being a journalist, I too am a security professional.
There will be a general membership meeting of the Philippine Society for Industrial Security (PSIS)-7 this Friday, 6 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Center along D. Jakosalem St., Cebu City.
Our president Atty. Michelle Mendez-Palmares has invited Bingen Mendezona of Aboitiz to talk about “Preparing for the worst case scenario on threats and hazards that will most likely impact Cebu.”
Those present would be given certificates that will help us earn the needed points to renew our certificates as Certified Security Professionals (CSP).
Registration fee is only P350 and a dinner buffet is included as well as raffles and entertainment.
