Hijas de Pueblo bags men's open title in San Roque football

CEBU, Philippines - The unheralded Hijas de Pueblo bested San Roque Nawanao, 5-3, via penalty shootout to clinch the men's open championship of the 3rd San Roque 9-a-side Football Tournament at the San Roque Parish field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

The two protagonists were both hungry for the title that they put up a strong defense against each other resulting to a scoreless draw at the end of the regulation period.

Despite losing in the final, San Roque Nawanao still has something to be proud of as it downed strong title contender KTEC Trading in the semifinal.

Meanwhile, the event organizers led by Engr. Nilo Ferraren cancelled the games in the men’s 40-above and girls 17 due to time constraints.

The rest of the categories saw Paref-Springdale grabbing the boys 12 title and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu taking home the boys 17 crown.

The Barili Boys lorded it over in the players 9 division, while the Mandaue Technological Institute (MTI) reigned supreme in the boys 15 class.  (FREEMAN)
