Strikes golds in all fronts to easily rule PRISAA Regional Meet

TAGBILARAN CITY ,Philippines  - The formidable Team Cebu City struck golds in all fronts to become virtual champions in the 2012 Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) Regional Meet at different venues here yesterday.

Birthday boy Lindley Fran Navaja of the University of Cebu (UC) crowned himself as the meet's fastest man after topping the century dash. He also ruled the 200m run of athletics event held at the Carlos P. Garcia (CPG) Sports Complex.

Navaja's teammates Ernesto Ybanez and Irin Baluran lorded it over in high jump, while Romeo Omnos snatched the gold in javelin throw.

Lorna Olarita of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) contributed two golds in women's 100m and 400m run along with Khenly Parcon in the men's 400m run and Aiza Suaybaguio in the 1,500m race.

Southwestern University’s Ian Bernido and Rolan Batiancila dominated the men's10K and 1,500m run, respectively, while Ayana Naron of the University of San Carlos (USC) was the best in women's javelin throw.

Over at the PMI aquatic center, Loren Dale Echavez of USC spearheaded TCC's charge with a clean sweep in 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle and 50m butterfly. She also powered TCC to golden finish in the 4x50m freestyle relay and 4x100m medley relay.

The rest who won multiple golds in swimming were Abegail Sakib, Alla Maribeth Ababon, Ara Denise Echavez, Claudine Candia, Mary Lorens Goyenechea in the women's division and Jebb Lynus Cane, John Michelson Beltran, Jon Pete Guno, John Sebastian Solon, Seth Melendez and Edgar Allan Jarina in the men's bracket.

Bohol's lone consolation was Paul Mamel who reigned supreme in 1,500m freestyle event, which was secured by Paul Mamel of Bohol.

TCC's jins also harvested golds courtesy of Joan Kristel Regidor and Jenessa Vergara of the University of the Visayas (UV), Karen Joy Fontanlia and Jesset Pagnilawan of SWU, Lovely Lim of UC, John Paul Tomarse, Lord Jay Guia, Kevin Limbaga, Richard Rama, Raymond Banzon, Ralph Bullicer and Rey Tulabing.

In lawn tennis played at the Holy Name University (HNU), the Siso sisters Sallydine and Sally Mae of USC secured the women’s doubles title, while Kezia Jabines topped the women’s singles.

Bernardine Siso reigned supreme in the men’s singles, 8-1, while the duo of Kennex Abadia and Jade Labaya won gold in men's doubles.

In table tennis, TCC likewise swept the men and women’s titles courtesy of Jennifer Jacalan, Jerny Kaye Pepito, Elonna Dane Tormis, Candy Babalcon, Hanna Arroyo, Jovien Ano-os, Darbet Tripoli, Christopher Cortel, Genesis Cagula and Daniel Ybarita.

The USC and USPF-powered football squad of Cebu City slammed HNU, 9-2, even as the Niños, manned by athletes from UC and USJ-R, also shone brightly in chess.

Over at the Island City Mall, TCC sparkled in dancesport behind the efforts of Christy Kim Velez and Daryl Christopher Nelmida in the Latin American category and the Salvador siblings Terence and Therese in the Modern Standard division. - (THE FREEMAN)
