Amad wins CHECK U-16 chess
CEBU, Philippines - Sherwin Amad bagged the inaugural title of the Chess Enthusiasts in Cebu for Kids (Check) 16-Under Tournament over the weekend in Brgy. Tabunok, Talisay City.
The 16-year-old Amad finished the 7-round Swiss system competition with the highest score of 5.5 points.
Felix Balbona and Ryan Fernando both wound up with 5.0 points, but Balbona took the second place honors by virtue of a superior tie-break output.
Aside from medals, Amad pocketed P1,000, while Balbona and Fernando received P700 and P500, respectively.
Rounding up the top 10 placers were Marq Gabrielle Balbona, James Andrew Balbona, Ryan Pacres, John Francis Balbona, Jeremy Pepito, Jeffu Dorog and John Barade.
Shyshy Dorog and Blain Axcel Otadoy won special awards for being the youngest participants. - (THE FREEMAN)
