CEBU, Philippines - The Muffin Sluggers and Sigbins shared the spotlight with one win each and a draw after the first round of the 2012 Cebu 10s Rugby League at the Aboitiz Sports field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
Homer Bangay scored on two tries to power the Sluggers to a 14-7 demolition of the Bulls, while the Sigbins chalked up their first victory also at the expense of the Bulls, 21-14.
The tried-and-tested Noel Flowers led the Sigbins' conquest of the Bulls along with Edmund Batiquin, and Brian Cañon.
During their head-on collision, however, the Sluggers and Sigbins figured in a scoreless draw.
In the ladies 7s category, Teams Ono and Team Salinas ended their battle at a 35-all draw.
Among those who delivered the goods for Team Ono were Aiumi Ono, Cathy Ruiz and Mae Ann Ubaub, while Madille Salinas and Eloisa Jordan spearheaded the offensive run of Salinas.
Exciting rugby action will resume this Saturday at the same venue.
Aside from the competition, the Vismin Rugby Football Union and the Rugby Football Club of Cebu City will be holding clinic.
For this month alone, two clinics have been lined up, one at the UC-IMEC and the other at the Cebu International School.
