PRISAA chairman upbeat on Cebu's hosting of Games
CEBU, Philippines - Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) National Chairman Emmanuel Angeles expressed confidence that Cebu will successfully host the 20th PRISAA National Collegiate Games scheduled to be held from April 22 to 28.
“I believe that Cebu’s hosting of the national PRISAA will be of great success because we don’t find any problem in this part of the region. Hospitality is very innate among the Cebuanos and the educational leaders here are very dynamic,” said Angeles.
Angeles, together with his co-chairman and PRISAA National President Fr. Vicente L. Uy, SVD, spearheaded the annual national board meeting the other day at the Cebu Country Club.
Part of the agenda was the preparation for the upcoming event that includes the billeting, accommodation and playing venues.
They already made a back-up plan in case the track oval of Cebu City Sports Center will not be done before the scheduled date. Athletics and batted sports will be played in Danao City.
Fr. Uy, for his part, said he’s hoping that the city government will do something so that the renovation of the track oval will be done before the national PRISAA.
“There will be over 5,000 athletes and coaches that will be coming here. We would like to seek help and support from our local officials, the Department of Education (DepEd) and private schools for the successful hosting of this prestigious national multi-sporting event,” said Fr. Uy.
As host, Central Visayas is heavily favored to defend the overall championship it snatched last year in
Zamboanga City.
Prior to that, the region's athletes will test each other's mettle first in the Regional PRISAA slated on February 3 to 5 in Tagbilaran City and Bohol Province. (FREEMAN)
