CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Volleyball Association (CEVA) has finally approved its initial plan to hold a commercial volleyball league this year.
CEVA co-chairman Glenn Anthony Soco said they are looking at summer or midway this year for the realization of the said project, which they hope would further boost Cebu’s image as the volleyball capital of the Philippines.
“We are now in the planning stages. It was approved already by the CEVA board and we are looking at summer or mid this year to have the competition,” he said.
Soco said the league will also cater to players who are no longer playing in different universities and since it's an open competition, it will be supported by various stakeholders.
“This league will surely bring the sport to the next level. With this, there will be a transition for our players from the elementary down to the college level and then to this, like that of the commercial basketball league,” said Soco.
Aside from the commercial league, CEVA will also spearhead the establishment of a Volleyball Academy here in Cebu that would deal with training pool members in Vis-Min region as well as the players from LGUs and private schools. - THE FREEMAN
